Agartala: A BSF jawan belonging to the 150 battalion was allegedly attacked by a group of Bangladeshi smugglers on Saturday at Gate No. 196 in Kalamchoura BOP in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, a police source said here on Monday.
Police said the BSF constable, identified as Bhole, found a group of Bangladeshi miscreants illegally crossing the wire fence to smuggle sugar.
“The accused group abused the jawan and when he tried to disperse the miscreants, they harassed him and tried to drag him to Bangladesh. They also snatched his weapon along with a radio set. Though the jawan managed to escape, he was assaulted with bamboo sticks and an iron rod. He sustained grievous injuries in the attack,” a police officer said. A commandant-level flag meeting of BSF was held on Monday with Border Guards Bangladesh over the issue after which the latter returned the snatched weapon and the radio set to the BSF, police said.
