Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Former ZP member Dr Meenal Patil Khatgaonkar on Wednesday said she was ready to contest the assembly polls as an independent candidate if the BJP denied her a ticket from the Nayegaon assembly constituency.
Dr Meenal, the daughter-in-law of Nanded district’s political bigwig Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar, is a medical graduate.
The Nayegaon assembly constituency is currently represented by BJP MLA Rajesh Pawar. She also reached out to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange in Antarwali Sarati on Wednesday, in a message to the BJP leadership that she was not ready to step back from fighting assembly polls.
Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar and Dr Meenal had quit Congress and switched their loyalty to BJP in support of Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Chavan before the Lok Sabha polls.
Dr Meenal told TOI, “When Chavan moved to BJP, we too joined the party with him. At that time, we were given to understand that Chavan will decide the LS candidature in favour of us, but that did not happen.” The Nayegaon assembly constituency comprises Nayegaon, Umri and Dharmabad tehsils.
