BAREILLY: An FIR has been filed against one Vaibhav Sharma, resident of Bareilly, under the Cruelty Against Animals Act, following a complaint lodged by members of the People for Animals and Mercy for All NGOs. The complaint alleges Vaibhav's involvement in capturing stray dogs, sterilizing them, and engaging in the illicit sale of their blood.
The demand for dog blood in the market persists due to the absence of a specialised donor bank or system for pet owners in Bareilly.
However, drawing blood from street or stray dogs necessitates permission from both the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals, a statutory body under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Vikendra Sharma of People for Animals NGO said, "Vaibhav not only captures stray dogs, including pregnant ones, but also sells their blood at exorbitant prices in the market. We demand stringent action against him."
SHO of Kotwali police station told TOI, "The FIR was lodged based on the complaint of representative of Mercy for All NGO, Shalini Arora. She reported Vaibhav's illegal sale of stray dog blood in the market. We are currently verifying the registration details of Vaibhav's NGO and will take appropriate legal action. It has also been found that Shalini and Vaibhav previously worked together. Further probe underway."
