Kolar: Two people have been arrested by Malur police in Kolar district for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old woman and attempting to stage her death as a road accident. The suspects are Thimme Gowda from Kemmoli village in Sathanur, Ramanagara district, and Muniyappa from Harobande village in Chikkaballapur taluk. The deceased has been identified as Lakshmamma, a resident of Nambiganahalli in Malur taluk.
On Sept 7, police received a report about a body being found on the roadside near Hungenahalli in Malur taluk. Initially, they suspected it was a hit-and-run case, but the absence of major injuries on the body raised doubts, prompting them to register a case of unnatural death. During investigation, cops learnt that Lakshmamma had left her home the previous day, saying she was going to attend the Gauri festival at a relative's house, but she didn't return that night. Police also discovered that two men — Thimme Gowda and Muniyappa — who were close to Lakshmamma's family had gone missing. A manhunt was launched, leading to their eventual arrest.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime. They revealed that they had borrowed over Rs 30 lakh from Lakshmamma's husband, Ananda Reddy, and Lakshmamma had been persistently demanding repayment. The two men, who had met during their time at Bengaluru Central Prison following convictions in other crimes, conspired to
murder her. They allegedly lured her away from her village, smothered her to death, and then dumped her body on the road to make it look like an accident, police said.
