CHENNAI: As per the Madras high court's direction, the Central Bureau of Investigation (
CBI), Chennai, has booked former director of
Pondicherry University S Hariharan for alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 2.25 crore.
The DYFI lodged two complaints of fund misappropriation in Pondicherry University to the CBI last year. It later approached the Madras high court over inaction from the investigation agency.
The high court earlier this month instructed the CBI to take up the matter for probe, after which the agency registered a case against Hariharan on August 7.
According to the FIR, Hariharan swindled the funds meant for 92 refresher courses offered in the university and an internal audit wing investigation concluded that he misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 27 lakh by producing fake bills.
The FIR also states that university vice-chancellor Gurmeet Singh received Rs 50 lakh as bribe from Hariharan to give him a clean chit in the findings of the committee formed to probe the allegations.
