MADURAI: Madurai Railway Division achieved an average freight train speed of 40.45 kmph by Sept 15, the highest freight train speed in
Indian Railways.
A cake-cutting ceremony was held at the division office on Monday with divisional railway manager Sharad Srivastava celebrating the division’s success with his fellow officers ADRM L N Rao, chief project officer of Gati Shakti, K Harikumar, senior divisional operations manager V Prasanna and senior divisional engineer M Karthik.
The division has posted an average speed of 38.62 kmph by Aug 15 securing the top position in all the railway divisions of Indian Railways, and this average speed includes stabling and yarding time of freight trains, said railway officials.
Madurai division's exceptional performance is a testament to its commitment to efficiency, it said.
Last financial year, the division achieved an impressive freight train speed of 35.6 kmph, standing out across the entire Indian Railways network, said DRM Sharad Srivastava.
Besides the freight train speed, the division has also posted exceptional punctuality in operating passenger trains. The division has achieved 100% punctuality in 108 days out of the 168 days in this financial year.
With a 99.37% punctuality for mail trains and 99.42 % punctuality for unreserved passenger trains and train on demand services, the division achieved the highest punctuality rate, said railway officials.
