Coimbatore:
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday slammed the
DMK and its allies for not responding to the questions raised by a section of MPs in
Kerala on the safety and stability aspects of Mullaperiyar dam.
Following the landslides in Wayanad, many social media influencers in Kerala had been talking about the safety of Mullaperiyar dam. BJP MP Suresh Gopi too had raised concerns about the Mullaperiyar dam and asked “who will be held accountable if the dam fails? Will the court take responsibility?”
Addressing the media at the city airport on the day, EPS said the dam was very strong during the time of the previous AIADMK govt.
“The Supreme Court had constituted a committee, which reported to the court that the dam was so strong. The previous AIADMK govt had taken enough steps to strengthen the dam. The Tamil Nadu and Kerala state public works departments visit the dam once in three months to check its stability and safety. So, people needn’t have to fear about the dam, which is the lifeline of five southern districts in Tamil Nadu.”
He lambasted the DMK and its allies for not dismissing the rumours being spread about the dam. “The DMK and its allies are working for their wealth. They won’t think about the welfare of Tamils. The allies of the DMK have lost their individuality.”
EPS also said the DMK was having clandestine ties with the BJP. “Senior DMK leader R S Bharathi had announced that the party legislators wouldn’t be participating in the governor’s tea party. But Stalin and minister Duraimurugan participated,” he said.
