HC records 129% case clearance in early ’24
Cuttack: The Orissa high court recorded a case clearance rate (CCR) of 129.98% during the first 3 months of this year. While 19,837 cases were instituted and 25,784 were disposed of, the number of pending cases went down from 1,47,028 on Jan 1 to 1,41,314 on Mar 31. During this period, as many as 618 judgments were delivered.
Of the 25,784 cases disposed of, 16,319 were civil and 9,465 criminal cases.

During this period, 11,511 civil cases and 8,326 criminal cases were instituted, according to the high court.
While the clearance rate in was 163.55% in Jan, it went down to 136.33% in Feb and further down to 99.62% in Mar. In the case of subordinate courts, the CCR was 87.30% in the first three months on 2024. Thee CCR increased from 74.72% in Jan to 82.72% in Feb and 104.97% in March. While 1,29,081 cases were instituted, 1,12,684 were disposed of.
The number of pending cases went up from 18,73,312 on Jan 1 to 18,89,709 by Mar 31. Of the cases disposed of by the district courts in the three months, 85,976 were criminal cases and 26,708 civil cases.
During this period, 20,680 civil cases and 1,08,401 criminal cases were instituted. Institution of criminal cases increased due to filing of 10,371 cases under Motor Vehicles Act. During the period, 37,844 judgments were delivered by the district courts. TNN
