Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja recently opened up about the fallout between her husband and director
David Dhawan, who were a famous actor-director duo in the 90s and gave many hits. She revealed that the real behind their fight stating that the issue began when
David suggested
Govinda should take on secondary roles in films.
During a podcast Timeout with Ankit, Sunita explained that David advised Govinda to follow trends like
Amitabh Bachchan and
Akshay Kumar, who started doing second lead roles.
However, Govinda, who was used to solo hits with David, didn’t like the idea. This difference in opinion led to tension between them.
"Maybe Govinda didn’t like the idea of being a second lead, because in the 90s he only delivered solo hits with David. So maybe he couldn’t take it, that ‘why should I be second to Akshay or whatever’, so they had differences on that. I don’t think David was wrong and Govinda was also right in his place, because he had never done a second lead role before,” she added.

Sunita also mentioned that she has always been honest with Govinda, even though he is surrounded by people who agree with everything he says. "I always tell him. He says, mere ghar mein hi mere dushman hai. But I am like ‘we are not your enemies, just telling you the reality, you should listen’. But ek hero ke aas pass chaar chamche hote hai (Heroes have yes men around them). I am not one of those. I really get angry on them and always say, they should launch their own ‘Wah wah Productions’ and launch more yes men,” she added.
The last film Govinda and David worked on together was Do Knot Disturb in 2009. Since then, David has made five more films without Govinda. Some of their biggest hits together were Swarg, Saajan Chale Sasural, Hero No 1, and Raja Babu.
