ERODE: Chief minister M K Stalin called upon the people in Erode East to vote for the DMK alliance in the byelection, as their vote would be deemed a validation of "good governance" given by his government. "Your vote for the 'hand' (Congress symbol) would mean recognition for our government," Stalin said campaigning for Congress candidate E V K S Elangovan on Saturday - the last day of campaigning.
Facing criticism from opposition parties that the DMK has failed to fulfill its election promises, Stalin said the schedule of implementation of the scheme to give 1,000 to women will be detailed in the budget in March second week.
1x1 polls

Though Stalin was scheduled to campaign for two days in the intensely fought bypoll, it was later reduced to one day. Stalin, who began his campaign in the morning, travelled through all arterial roads of Erode East and spoke in five places before 4.55pm when he wound up the campaign one hour before the deadline.
Much of his speech was focused on responding to opposition allegation that the DMK failed to fulfill its electoral promises. "We have fulfilled 85% of the electoral promises. The monthly financial assistance to women was one of the few left. We are determined to fulfill that too," he said.
Stalin said that this announcement was not a violation of the model code of conduct since it was an electoral promise made in 2021. In the remaining three years, all the remaining promises will be fulfilled, he said.
