2 bank employees dead after SUV gets trapped in flooded Faridabad's underpass

Two private bank employees, Punyashray Sharma and Viraj, died after their SUV got trapped in floodwaters at the Old Faridabad Railway underpass. Despite warnings about the flooded area due to heavy rainfall, they entered and became stuck. Passers-by tried to rescue them but were unsuccessful in saving their lives.

NEW DELHI: Two bank employees lost their lives after getting trapped in their SUV while navigating a flooded railway underpass in Faridabad, Haryana, police reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred late on Friday night as Punyashray Sharma, 48, and Viraj, 26, were on their way home to Greater Faridabad from Gurugram. Due to continuous rain on Friday, the underpass had flooded and warnings were issued to avoid entry.
Despite the warnings, the duo's XUV 700 entered the underpass around 11:50 pm and got stuck in deep water.

Water began to flood the vehicle.
Passers-by attempted to rescue the victims and managed to pull them out after significant efforts. Viraj died on the spot. Sharma was taken to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital but was declared dead.
Inspector Samer Singh said, "Their families have been informed. We will hand over the bodies to the next of kin after post-mortem examinations."
