Gurgaon: Two persons died, and three of their friends were injured when the car they were traveling in flipped after crashing into a divider at Sector 40 on Sunday morning. The group of friends was returning to their homes after meeting a friend who was leaving for the UK to pursue higher education, cops said.
According to the police, Ishan Narain (22) suffered multiple injuries to his chest.
Meanwhile, Bhavya Mathur (21) succumbed to a head injury. The two were declared dead at the hospital. The injured persons are Himanshi Aneja, Vanni Raswant, and Abha Mehra.
Officials said, Ishan lived in South City 1 and was a BBA student at a college in Palam Vihar. His friend, Bhavya, was from Sector 14 and was studying law in Mumbai, while the others were either graduates or undergraduate students.
"The five of us went to a common friend's house in Sector 70A in Ishan's Honda City car to meet him on Saturday night," Himanshi said in her complaint.
The complainant said, "At around 5.50am, we were at the Sector 31/40 traffic signal. I was sitting next to Ishan, and three others were in the back seat. Just before the traffic signal, an unidentified white car suddenly cut in front of our car. Ishan made a sharp left turn into the service lane to avoid a collision. Due to the sudden change of direction, the car lost balance and hit the service lane divider. This caused the car to flip onto its side after crashing into a tree on the divider."
According to SI Rohtash Singh, the collision resulted in multiple injuries for the five friends. Passersby later took them to the nearby Fortis hospital for treatment and immediately informed the police.
Singh mentioned that the car was severely damaged in the accident. A preliminary investigation indicated that the car could have been overspeeding. "The damage to the car suggests that it was a high speed crash. We are yet to find the exact reason of the
accident," he said.
Based on Himanshi's complaint, police registered a case under BNS sections 106 (causing death due to negligence) and 281 (rash driving in a public way). The two bodies were sent for an autopsy, said Singh.
