As floodwater recedes, people return to homes in Khammam
Hyderabad: Normalcy is gradually being restored in the Khammam town and some of its outskirts, which were worst-affected by rains and flood fury, leaving hundreds of people homeless.
People have started leaving the relief camps set up by the govt and are going back to their homes after a respite from rains in the last week. The flood warning for the Munneru river has also been withdrawn by the district administration.

Following heavy rainfall, 13 municipal divisions of Khammam town along with 20 other colonies in its suburban mandals were badly affected by floods on September 1. Hundreds of families were rendered homeless as rainwater entered their houses.
As many as 8,200 people, including men, women, and children, were shifted to relief camps from Khammam town, and another 2,300 people from suburban mandals. With the district administration completing the sanitation work in colonies, people have started to return to their homes.
The state govt extended 15,000 per family in relief camps as they had lost everything, including utensils and certificates. They would be paid compensation after the state receives central assistance.
People whose houses collapsed were helped by donors to find rented houses temporarily.
