Indore: A major fire broke out at an electric vehicle showroom in Geeta Bhavan area on Thursday evening and was doused after several hours. No casualties were reported in the incident.
“The fire broke out around 6:22 pm at the Ola electric two-wheeler showroom located near Geeta Bhavan square. It is suspected that a short circuit led to the fire spreading uncontrollably.
There were 25 to 30 employees inside the showroom who escaped to safety,” said ASI Sushil Dubey.
He added that the fire broke out on the ground floor of a high-rise building. There is a coaching centre and finance company office on the floors above. The officials immediately asked them to evacuate the building and started the rescue operations.
Dubey said that the fire was so intense that smoke could be seen from a distance. The fire brigade, police administration and SDRF team managed to control the fire. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and over 45,000 litres of water was used from two vehicles and four tankers to douse the flames.
“While fire was being doused, the batteries in the vehicles kept exploding. This was started due to a short circuit but was not an electric fire and was doused using water,” said Dubey. TOI tried to contact the company but they refused to comment on the incident. Dubey said that over 20 vehicles were damaged in the fire, and the company is yet to ascertain the losses incurred.
