Indore: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) took on Wednesday morning demolished at least eight large illegal cattlesheds in Zone 14 and 21.
Despite strong opposition from cattle owners, the IMC proceeded with the demolition in presence of a heavy police force. Also, some stray dogs were also removed from the area.
IMC additional commissioner Siddharth Jain said acting on the directives of commissioner Shivam Verma, eight illegally constructed cattlesheds were demolished in Prabhuram Nagar, Ahirakhedi Ram Mandir, and Akash Nagar, falling under Zone 21 and Zone 14.
“This move by the IMC aims to address the issue of stray cattle and unauthorised structures in the city, which has been a growing concern for residents,” he said.
“We are preparing for Swachh Survekshan 2024 and all possible efforts are being made to obtain maximum points in the competition to help retain the country’s cleanest city tag for the eighth time in a row,” Jain said, adding that removal of illegal cattlesheds was a part of preparations for the coveted tag.
