Jaipur: Kisan Mahapanchayat president Rampal Jat has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a prohibition on the import of palm oil by the govt of India. Jat wrote that to achieve self-reliance in edible oils and provide pure oil to citizens, it is necessary to immediately ban import of palm oil.
“Despite launching Palm Mission with a budget of Rs 11,040 crore in 2012, the govt has remained silent on its outcomes,” he said.
His letter said the import policy has led to a drop in prices of domestic oilseeds, preventing farmers from getting even the minimum support price. TNN
