JAMSHEDPUR: A workshop was organised by the East Singhbhum district administration on how to make the people aware of the harmful effects of consumption of tobacco.
Additional commissioner Jaideep Tigga, director of district rural development agency Saurav Sinha, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Piyush Sinha, Mrityunjay Dhawriya from health department discussed on how to implement the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2023 (COTPA) here.
The officials said consumption of tobacco is harmful for individuals and smoking in public places is an offence, which very few people are aware of. So before taking action against offenders, the administration will try to create public awareness.

Rohit Kumar said flying squads would be constituted to keep an eye on the sale, purchase and consumption of tobacco-related products here.
SDM Piyush Sinha said tobacco is bad not only for health and may lead to untimely death, but it is also an economic burden for the consumers.
The state government with the help of socio-economic and educational development society is trying to raise awareness among the public over the ill-effects of tobacco consumption.
