Casting of tunnel ring segments for underground metro section begins
Kanpur: Under Corridor-2 (between CSA University and Barra-8) of metro, construction of the 4.1 km Rawatpur-Double Pulia underground section is progressing swiftly. On Monday, in the presence of Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), and other senior officials, the casting of the tunnel ring segments for this section commenced.

These segments will be pre-cast at the Makdikheda casting yard and used in the tunnel construction.
UPMRC, managing director visited the under-construction underground stations of the Kanpur Metro. Following his inspection of Chunniganj station, he proceeded to casting yard at Makdikheda, where he inaugurated casting of the first ring segment using the machine.
Once cast, these ring segments will be transported into the tunnel at the time of tunnelling. Inside the tunnel, the TBM will assemble the segments into circular rings. These rings will be constructed sequentially to form the tunnel structure, onto which the metro track will be laid, allowing the metro train to pass through the completed tunnel.

Wind tunnel testing was in progress for the twin towers set for construction atop the new Zuari bridge. The design would be finalized after this phase. The towers, costing Rs 297 crore, would feature observatories for visitors and would be managed by Dilip Buildcon for 50 years. Construction was expected post-monsoon.
