Kanpur: The food security & drug administration department conducted a raid on Wednesday, targeting 11 sweet shops across the city. During the operation, the authorities procured a total of 24 samples of dry fruits, mawa, cheese, motichoor laddoo, gram flour and prepared sweets.
According to assistant commissioner-II, Sanjay Pratap Singh, a specialized team comprising six members, led by chief food security officer Qayamuddin, carried out an inspection at the manufacturing premises of Thaggu ke Laddoo, situated in the Civil Lines area.
The team collected samples of various ingredients such as dry fruits, sooji, mawa, and an assortment of prepared sweets from the site. During the course of the inspection, the department made observations regarding the manufacturing site's condition. It was noted that the premises lacked proper sanitation measures, exhibited signs of poor maintenance, and had visible water seepage from the roof. Additionally, the presence of spider webs and the inappropriate placement of employees' clothing at the preparation site raised further concerns. Consequently, a formal notice was issued to the proprietor of the sweet shop, mandating a satisfactory response.
Failure to provide an adequate explanation would result in the initiation of legal proceedings against the shop owner.
Another team, led by Ajay Kumar Singh, conducted a raid on a sweet shop and obtained samples of cheese, motichoor laddoo, and rabari for further analysis. The assistant commissioner told TOI that the raids were executed in accordance with the directives issued by the district magistrate Kanpur Nagar and the commissioner of food security & drug administration.
