GSVM doctors protest against Kolkata incident
Kanpur: The junior doctors of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVM) on Saturday staged a protest and took out a rally in the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital campus here on Saturday in view of the rape and murder of a junior doctor in RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. In the morning the junior doctors also locked the OPD in an act of defiance.
Till Friday, the OPD was running under the supervision of senior doctors, but on Saturday, senior doctors also joined the strike in solidarity.

They said that for the safety of doctors and patients principal of GSVM medical college Dr Sanjay Kala, formed his own team to ensure that the patients do not face hardships due to the strike and that outside brokers do not exploit the situation and take patients to private hospitals.
Meanwhile, on the call of Indian Medical Association (IMA), the doctors in the city went on a 24-hour strike from 6 am on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday to protest against the brutal incident and murder of a female doctor. During this period, services and testing centres in private hospitals also remained closed, but emergency services continued uninterrupted.
JDA president Dr Nandini Rastogi said that the heinous incident of rape and murder of a trainee female doctor while on duty in Kolkata has sent shockwaves across the entire country. She also criticised the college authorities for their poor handling of the matter after the incident.
