Kanpur: The police arrested two persons for attacking a labourer with a sharp-edged weapon in Gujaini police station area, recently.
Accused told the police that the labourer, under the influence of alcohol, was hurling abuses at them which prompted them to attack. The victim, Shivnath (55), a native of Bindki in Fatehpur, lives near Barra Ramgopal intersection.
Fed up of his liquor addiction, his wife, Rania Mangalawati, a native of Chittipur, Kanpur Dehat, has been living separately with their two daughters for about a year.
On the night of Aug 10, Shivnath, in an inebriated state, was verbally abusing people near Ram Gopal crossing. Two youths in an auto stopped at the intersection, and Shivnath started abusing them as well. In response, the youths attacked him with a knife, critically injuruing him. On a complaint filed by Shivnath’s wife, Gujaini police registered a case against the two accused under the charges of attempt to murder.
DCP South Ravindra Kumar stated that the accused were identified as Priyanshu Saini and Shivam of Naubasta, Awas Vikas, with the help of footage procured 176 CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas. “The police apprehended the accused from near Basant Petrol Pump and recovered the knife used in the crime and a two-wheeler,” said the DCP. The DCP announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the police team for arresting the accused. tnn
