KASARAGOD/KOZHIKODE: Three RSS activists accused of 2017 murder of madrasa teacher Mohammed Riyas Moulavi in Kerala were acquitted Saturday, with Kasaragod sessions court freeing the trio after seven years of imprisonment as the prosecution failed to establish a motive for the crime. The suspects - S Ajesh (27), Nidhin Kumar (26), and Akhilesh (32) - are natives of Ayyappanagar of Kelugude in Kasaragod.

Riyas Moulavi (34), from Madikeri in Karnataka's Coorg, was found hacked in his room on March 20, 2017. According to chargesheet, the killers entered the mosque compound, knocked at Riyas Moulavi's door, & stabbed him multiple times when he opened it.
The probe team had arrested the three RSS activists, and the trial began in 2019. More than 215 documents and 97 witnesses were presented as evidence by investigation team.
