Lucknow: A
fast track court in Hardoi on Saturday awarded life sentence to six convicts for the
murder of one Ram Sagar (55) in 2016.
Pronouncing the punishment, additional district judge Hardoi Yashpal also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on each convict and said failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one-year sentence for each. The judge has also ordered that half of the fine be given to the son of the victim, who had filed the case.
Those convicted are Govardhan, his son Anil, Kamlesh Singh, Gyan Singh, Prithviraj, and Ram Sahay.
They have been convicted under IPC Section 302 (murder).
Additional SP, Hardoi, MP Singh, said Ram Singh had filed an FIR on June 22, 2016, alleging that his father Ram Sagar was attacked over a land dispute by his uncle Govardhan, Govardhan's son Anil Kumar, Chandraprakash Kisan alias Contractor, and his son Chhaviram, along with Gyan Singh, Kamlesh, Prithviraj, and Ram Sahay.
"They assaulted Ram Sagar with sticks and sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. When villagers were alerted and came to help, the attackers fled, issuing threats. Ram Sagar succumbed to his injuries on the spot," said the ASP.
Police had filed a chargesheet against Govardhan, Anil, Chandraprakash, and Ram Sahay in Sept 2016, while charges against Prithviraj, Kamlesh, and Gyan Singh were filed in Jan 2017. Chhaviram's name was dropped during the investigation, ASP Singh added.
Chandraprakash passed away during trial.
