LUCKNOW: Rampant corruption in sale and purchase of land in Ayodhya explains the extent to which irregularities are prevailing in the rest of the state, said
Samajwadi Party president
Akhilesh Yadav, claiming that
BJP functionaries and office bearers are "operating as biggest land mafia".
"Ever since the BJP govt has come into being, party functionaries and office bearers have been operating as the state's biggest land mafia.
They have not only usurped land but haven't spared even ponds. In Lucknow itself, many ponds have fallen prey to plotting," Akhilesh said, addressing mediapersons on Saturday.
"There has been corruption and loot in the sale and purchase of land in Ayodhya. If this is what is happening in the holy city of Ayodhya, one can imagine the situation in the remaining districts of the state," Akhilesh alleged.
Referring to the murder of a shopkeeper for refusing to open his shop in the middle of the night to give cigarette in Varanasi as a testimony to the law and order situation in the state, Akhilesh said the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics reveal that the state records maximum cases of murder, loot and crime against women.
"This is because the police department is busy hatching conspiracies. When police go for fake encounters, they have to spend hours sitting to create a sequence before and after the incident. In Sultanpur, the fake encounter of Mangesh Yadav took place at 3.30 pm. At 5am, a press note was released. Pieces were put together like the bag, the motorcycle and a new pair of clothes," he claimed.
The former UP CM said Mangesh's family met him and described how police reached their house on Sept 2 night and took Mangesh away. On Sept 5, he was shot dead.
"SP has raised the issue of fake encounters time and again and will continue to take it forward," Akhilesh said.
SP chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said, "The party has assured the families of Mangesh and other fake encounter victims that they will get justice."
