Ludhiana: Daily paid labourers (DPL) at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) are opposing a decision by the administration to conduct an additional test of basic math and English for permanent posts, including positions such as messenger boy and beldar. The administration has made it mandatory for messenger boys to clear the test of basic math and English and practical tests for the post of beldar.
The workers, who have already cleared previously mandated test of Punjabi language, expressed frustration over the sudden imposition of this new requirement. According to the DPL contractual worker PAU welfare association, when permanent posts were initially advertised in June 2023, there was no mention of any tests. tnn
