Case filed against social media user for derogatory post on Mahatma
Madurai: The Madurai city cybercrime police have registered a case against a social media user for posting a photoshopped image of Mahatma Gandhi holding a billhook, accompanied by a derogatory caption on Facebook.
The complaint was filed by Velmurugan, Tamil Nadu state secretary of the Bharathiya Praja Aikyata Party. Velmurugan reported that the post, dated May 29, was made by a user named Kalyan Sundaram and included a caption in Tamil that mockingly referenced Gandhi’s principle of ahimsa (non-violence).

Velmurugan condemned the post as not only derogatory towards Mahatma Gandhi but also as offensive and provocative, hurting the sentiments of Gandhi's followers. Following the complaint, the Madurai city police registered a case on Friday. An investigation is underway.TNN
