Madurai: Police have arrested a man for cheating a person of 2.4 lakh by promising sale of used vehicles at cheap rates in Madurai district.
Police said a cheating case was registered by Madurai district cybercrime police based on a complaint received in Sep 2023. The complainant had stated that an unidentified person called him on his mobile phone and said that he will sell used vehicles for cheap prices.
Believing the words, the complainant paid 2.4 lakh online for purchasing a used vehicle. However, the complainant did not receive the vehicle.
A team was formed to investigate the case. Following a probe, the online fraudster was traced to Coimbatore. Police arrested S Manickam, of Sivaganga, and seized his mobile phone and SIM cards used in criminal activities. Police said that Manickam was involved in similar crimes in Trichy and Coimbatore as well. He was remanded in judicial custody on Monday. TNN
