Navi Mumbai: Nerul police rescued in 24 hours a Govandi contractor's 28-year-old son who was allegedly abducted by three men last week over pending payment for a building painting contract. They also arrested the alleged abductors.
Brahmanand Naikwadi, senior Nerul police inspector, said as per a complaint lodged by the contractor, Saeed Shaikh (47), he took a contract to paint buildings in Ulwe and Juinagar and gave a sub-contract to Chand Shaikh.
Saeed made a partial payment to Chand for the work. A dispute arose after Chand claimed that Saeed owed him Rs 1.5 lakh, which the latter rebutted, saying dues of only Rs 32,000 were still pending. Police said Chand repeatedly demanded his dues but Saeed expressed his reluctance to make the payment.
On Sept 11, Chand and his two aides, Israil Shaikh (27) and Kausar Ali Haq (26), abducted Chand's son, Shoaib, while he was supervising the project site in Juinagar.
Naikwadi said Chand then contacted Saeed and demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 lakh to release Shoaib. Saeed immediately approached police. "Subsequently, a police team was formed to track down the accused kidnappers. We obtained CCTV camera footage and zeroed in on the autorickshaw in which the accused too Shoaib away. Using technical expertise, the kidnappers were traced to Lalaji Pada area in Kandivli and Shoaib was rescued within 24 hours," said the senior inspector.
