Mysuru: A head constable, who is under suspension on the charges of dereliction of duty, has been awarded the chief minister’s medal for his achievements, on Independence Day. Police officers, however, claim there is no goof in this regard as he was awarded for his previous achievements.
Saleem Pasha, a head constable with the City Crime Branch, was placed under suspension pending inquiry for his alleged connections with accused in theft cases.
A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said applications are invited for the award during the Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations, and based on achievements, awards are given away on special occasions to encourage police personnel. Accordingly, Saleem’s application was accepted for his work three months ago, and he was suspended only a few weeks ago, the officer said.
