Nashik: The Nashik city police will be assisted by 1,000 home guards during the Ganapati festival, which is underway from Sept 7.
The home guards will be useful for the city police to monitor pandals of big Ganapati mandals and manage vehicular traffic management.
DCP (Crime) Prashant Bachhav said that a company of the state reserve police force (SRPF) will also be used for security measures.
While Nashikites have begun preparations for the festival, the police have also started conducting meetings with Ganesh mandals in their respective jurisdictions to ensure that the Ganapati mandal members are aware of the do's and don''ts.
Senior PI Jitendra Sapkale of the Upnagar police station said, "We are asking Ganesh mandal members to ensure that they put up CCTV cameras near their respective tableaus. This will not only help detect crimes like thefts, pick-pocketing, or missing children, but it will also deter criminals from indulging in criminal activities."
In view of the recent communal incidents, the police are asking Ganapati mandals to ensure the tableaus they put up do not hurt the religious sentiments of people. Apart from this, the mandal members have been told that the pandals they put up do not end up disturbing the vehicular flow of traffic on the road.
