Nashik: A 26-year-old burglar on Saturday was awarded five years imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 after he was convicted in a house break-in case, which occurred in April this year.
According to the police, the convict, identified as Shaikh, had stolen cash and articles worth Rs 1.2 lakh from a flat in Panchavati on April 15, after which the owner had registered a complaint.
He then gave the loot to Popat Kanindhwaj of Parner in Ahmednagar district.
The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pratibha Patil examined the statements of the complainant and witnesses and the evidence submitted by the investigating officer and found Shaikh and Kaningdhwaj guilty, and awarded them sentences.
Shaikh was awarded five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 380 of the IPC and three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 454 of the IPC. He will be serving the sentences concurrently.
