ULHASNAGAR: Due to continuous rains, the condition of roads in Ulhasnagar has become very bad, and the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has now geared up to deal with this problem.
The UMC has started to use modern technology of asphalt to fill the potholes in the city. The Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner, Aziz Sheikh, also reviewed the pothole-filling work by visiting the site personally.
Every year during the rainy season, potholes emerge on all major roads of Ulhasnagar city, causing drivers to face a lot of problems. Keeping this problem in mind, Municipal Commissioner Dr Aziz Sheikh ordered immediate action on the matter by asking to fill potholes.
The UMC commissioner has instructed to fill all potholes in the city before the Ganesh Festival. Accordingly, the Public Works Department has started the work of filling the potholes with the help of modern technology called 'Mastic Asphalt'.
The work has been done from the Dhobighat area, and in the next few days, it will also be done on major roads like Shriram Chowk, Netaji, Hiraghat, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Flyover, etc.
Under this process, asphalt is boiled at a temperature of 200 degrees and poured on gravel in four layers, making it waterproof, and the roads are soon opened for traffic.
Tarun Sevkani, City Engineer of UMC, told TOI, "This year we have issued a tender of Rs. 6 crores for filling potholes, but instead of using public money, we are filling potholes in the city with the Rs. 4 crores received from the digging done by Mahanagar Gas for the pipeline and Rs. 2 crores received for digging the Jio Cable line in the city."
During the inspection work, along with the UMC commissioner, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Shimpi, City Engineer Tarun Sewkani, and other officials were present.
