Trichy: A 55-year-old man died when a car hit his bicycle near Alundur on the Madurai- Trichy national highway in Trichy on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as A Palanisamy, of Manikandam.
Police said that Palanisamy was crossing the road on his bicycle when a speeding car hit him. He was tossed in the air and fell on the road. He sustained severe injuries on his head and died on the spot.
Police said that the driver of the car identified as M Chandrasekar, 27, of Viralimalai in Pudukottai district, lost control of the vehicle due to Palanisamy’s sudden intrusion onto the road in the poorly illuminated area. The driver was booked for rash and negligent driving.
Palanisamy’s body was brought to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital (MGMGH) for postmortem.
