Proposal for building bridge near Kasivilangi fish market put on hold
Trichy: Citing funds crunch, Trichy corporation has temporarily shelved a plan to build a minor bridge across the Kudamurutti river passing through Woraiyur. The bridge proposal has not made any progress for a year even as traffic congestion has worsened near the new fish market at Kasivilangi in Woraiyur.
The Kasivilangi fish market is connected to the city by Kulumani Road which also links western suburban areas such as Malliampathu and Koppu with Trichy.

As the road is used by both suburban and city residents, traffic bottlenecks are a daily phenomenon. So, the civic body, with help of a retired NIT Trichy professor, completed a technical study in May last year to reduce congestion in the stretch. The study suggested the construction of a minor bridge linking Lingam Nagar on Kuzhumani Road with AUT Colony to bypass the narrow stretch near the fish market. Only two-wheelers, cars, and autorickshaws were to be allowed on the bridge. But there had been no progress in the project since then.
“As we are constructing a new link road for the integrated bus terminus (IBT) at Panjapur along the Kudamurutti river, the proposal for the minor bridge will be put on hold until it gets technical clearance from the municipal administration department,” an official source said.
The bridge was estimated to cost 5 crore. “The local body has funds for several other beautification projects but not for a minor bridge,” Lingai Sivakumar, president of the Lingam Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, said.
Corporation officials said they would request police to streamline the on-street parking outside the fish market.

With no immediate aid from the Kullu district administration, around 300 villagers collaborated to restore connectivity. Despite this, Malana still faces significant accessibility issues and potential food shortages, urging further administrative intervention.
