Trichy: Following complaints from the residents about poor quality of drinking water in Rockfort and Big Bazaar street areas in wards 14 to 21, a team of 14 junior engineers has been constituted by the Trichy corporation to inspect the water supply network in eight wards.
The team will collect water samples from more than 10,000 connections including public taps in the next few days for lab inspections, and submit a detailed status report to the corporation commissioner.
A section of residents even alleged that some of them were hospitalised for nausea and diarrhoea after consuming the water. Though corporation refuted the claims, a technical team comprising officials from zones I and II was constituted to inspect the pipelines in the wards.
In areas where water contamination was suspected, roads were dug open on Wednesday.
“We are checking the chlorination level by collecting samples in all eight wards. Sumps in the houses are being inspected. Since some houses lack control valves, backflow from contaminated sumps may affect the water quality too,” an official said.
Corporation has instructed the engineering team to mobilise plumbers and fitters during the inspection.
