Udaipur: The civil defence team on Friday recovered bodies of a boy and girl from Badi lake in Udaipur who were missing since Thursday evening. The deceased have been identified as Dhruvi Bapna (19) and Abhishek Chelawat (21).
The civil defence team retrieved her body early in the morning, and seven hours later, the body of the boy was also discovered in the same location.
The couple had been reported missing since Thursday evening, and the discovery of the boy's slippers near the lake prompted the police to initiate a search operation. After a two-hour rescue effort, the civil defence team successfully recovered the boy's body around 4pm on Friday.
Narpat Singh, SHO Nai Police station, said that preliminary investigations suggest that both of them committed suicide together, and the incident appears to be linked to a relationship. Bapna was pursuing CA internship while Chelawat was a college student, he said.
The family of the deceased girl has accused the police of negligence in handling the case.
When the girl's body arrived at the MB Hospital mortuary, a large crowd gathered and relatives and neighbours alleged negligence on the part of the Bhupalpura police station. The family suspected foul play in the girl's death and demanded the resignation of the police station in charge.
