Parwana Theatre, a Mumbai-based theatre group, is set to present its latest production, 'The End', in Delhi this September. The play delves into the theme of love and relationships, following three couples at different stages of their journeys. Directed by Nikhita Singh, the production is inspired by her personal experiences and observations, and explores relationships as they approach their end.
The script was developed over four months by three women playwrights—Nikhita Singh, Mitali Kalagi, and Sambita De. This was followed by three more months of adding elements like movement, music, poetry, and innovative stage design to enhance the audience's experience."We wanted to show the highs as well as lows of falling in love. In a way, the play becomes a
meditation on why things end. Why do we leave? Especially as women." said Nikhita Singh. "It’s
been a long and fulfilling process, and we’re very proud of the fact that not only have we given
shape to the story we set out to tell, but we’ve also managed to explore and experiment."
The play follows three couples: college sweethearts in their 20s, a live-in couple in their 30s, and a married couple in their 40s. Each pair struggles with the complexities of their fading relationships. The play explores love and loss, highlighting the joy of youth, the monotony of cohabitation, and the practicality that often sustains loveless marriages.
'The End' uses music and movement to bring out the characters' emotions and questions about desire, control, and societal expectations. Director Nikhita Singh describes the play as a reflection on why relationships end, especially from a woman's perspective.
The play premiered in Mumbai in March and has been performed in several cities. Delhi audiences can watch it on September 21st and 22nd, 2024, at the Akshara Theatre and LTG Auditorium's The Next Act Festival.
