The World Test Championship (WTC) was launched in 2019 with the aim of adding significance to bilateral Test series. Under this system, each match in a series contributes points towards the WTC standings over a two-year cycle.
The championship provides a structured framework for Test cricket, ensuring that it remains relevant and compelling for players and fans alike. Just as the World Cups in the ODI and T20I formats determine the best teams in those disciplines, the WTC serves as the pinnacle event for Test cricket.
