Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath, born Ajay Mohan Bisht, is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. He was born on June 5, 1972, in Panchur, Uttarakhand, India.

He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1998 and was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, from the Gorakhpur constituency in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014. Adityanath is the Mahant or head priest of the Gorakhnath Mutt, a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur, following the death of his spiritual 'father,' Mahant Avaidyanath in September 2014. He is also the founder of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a social, cultural and nationalist group of youth who seek to provide rightist Hindu platform.

Days after taking charge of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered shut down of 'illegal' slaughter houses and a blanket ban on smuggling of cows. The state government officials were directed against using plastic products and pan masala in office premises. He also directed the state police to form anti-Romeo squads to check eve-teasing in the state.

The Yogi led UP govt also ordered a stay on Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) results after complaints of massive irregularities.

He also urged his ministers to shun sirens and hooters as they create noise pollution. Although he did not ban the red beacons.

In a big relief to farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi on April 4, 2017, waived off the Rs 30,729 crore worth loan of small and marginal farmers in the state.

Under his leadership, the Bharatiya Janta Party won the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for the second consecutive time.
