The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 was a special Shukravaar Karamveer episode, featuring renowned singers Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam. Host Amitabh Bachchan warmly welcomed the two music legends with a lovely introduction. Shreya and Sonu took to the KBC stage with a musical start, captivating the audience by singing "Tumko Paya Hai Ke Jaisa Khoya Hoon."
This episode marks Shreya Ghoshal's first time on the iconic hot seat.
Feeling both excited and a bit nervous, Shreya shared her thoughts with Amitabh Bachchan, saying, "Whether it's the hot seat or you as the host, this platform holds a special place in all our lives. Being here today fills me with both nervousness and excitement."
To help calm her nerves, Mr. Bachchan reassured her by saying, "Sonu has been here before and played brilliantly; I was really impressed with how he answered the questions. Sonu is very wise and knowledgeable. If you ever feel unsure, Shreya, just look to Sonu for some inspiration."
Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam are playing Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 in support of the "Smit Foundation," an old age home dedicated to caring for and assisting elderly parents who have been abandoned by their families. During the episode, they introduce Yojana Gharata, the driving force behind the foundation, who personally oversees the care of the elderly residents. Yojana shares that the foundation is home to 126 senior citizens, all of whom are physically, mentally, morally, and financially dependent on the organization. Each resident has a heartbreaking story of being abandoned by their families, making the foundation their new support system.
Sonu Nigam shared a deeply emotional story about an elderly citizen who was tragically beaten to death by her own son. He shares, "A writer came to Mumbai with his elderly mother. She was old, so would make noise while she would wake up at night for water or to go to the washroom. So, this man started hitting his mother. When this came to light, Mrs Yojana took his mother under her care and looked after her for six months. After six months, the son's feelings shifted. He started to miss his mother and took her back. A few days later, Ms Yojana visited them and found that his mother was in a coma. He hit her so badly and eventually, she passed away. Can anyone raise the hand of his own mother?

A video is played of elderly citizens where they narrate their plight. The heart-wrenching tale left everyone in the studio, including the audience, Shreya Ghoshal, and others, in tears. Moved by the gravity of the situation, Amitabh Bachchan, Shreya, and Sonu gave a standing ovation to Yojana Gharata for her immense contribution and dedication to the Smit Foundation.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Yojana was visibly touched, and Shreya reassured her, promising that she would now make regular visits to the foundation to offer her support.
Some of the important questions answered by Shreya and Sonu were. The question for Rs 1,60,000. The question for Rs 6,40,000. Who won her second gold medal in the 10m air rifle SH1 event at the Paralympics in 2024? Sonu Nigam goes by his instinct as he had read about it and he selects Option B) Avani Lekhara. It turns out to be the correct answer.
The duo then moved towards the question for Rs 12,50,000. Which instrument was banned by All India Radio from being performed in its broadcast programmes for more than 30 years? Sonu swiftly answers Option D) Harmonium. It is also the correct answer and both Shreya and Sonu celebrate their victory.
For Rs 25,00,000, the question they faced was a difficult one but they answered with the help of a Lifeline. Which of these musicians participated in a recording session with Led Zeppelin when the band visited Mumbai in 1972? They take the help of 'Audience Poll' lifeline as they are not sure of the answer. They decide to go with the audience's votes and select Option C) Ustad Sultan Khan. They win the amount.
As the episode concludes, Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam win Rs 25,00,000, which they generously donate to the Smit Old Age Home.
In addition to their contribution, the show's makers also step forward and donate an extra Rs 5,00,000 to the foundation, further supporting the care and well-being of the elderly residents.
