Gandhinagar: The union territory of Diu owes Rs 12.98 crore to Gujarat for water the state provides. A fresh proposal by Gujarat on water charges to the union territory was discussed at the Western Zonal Council (WZC) meeting held in Gandhinagar earlier this week.
The Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB) and Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd (GWIL) supply water to Diu.
Gujarat has proposed that the applicable tariff for the supply be Rs 15 per kilolitre for GWIL and Rs 10 per kilolitre for GWSSB with retrospective effect from June 1, 2023, and that the rates be increased 10% every three years.
The state government also sought that Diu clear its outstanding dues at the earliest. Diu owed Rs 4.58 crore to GWSSB and Rs 8.30 crore for GWIL as of June 2023, the state government informed at the meeting.
According to the government, GWSSB supplies 4.5 MLD water to Diu while GWIL supplies 4 MLD.
