Gandhinagar: With the recent spell of rain causing widespread damage to the road network in the state, govt on Tuesday announced that each MLA elected from municipal corporation areas will get an additional grant of Rs 2 crore to carry out road repairs in their respective constituencies.
The state roads and buildings department will disburse Rs 86 crore to 43 MLAs of Gujarat who represent municipal corporation areas, govt said.
MLAs in municipal areas receive grants from the urban development department for constructing new concrete or asphalt roads, resurfacing old roads, and installing paver blocks in areas where asphalt or concrete roads cannot be built. The sanctioned amount of Rs 2 crore will be additional and has to be used only for repairing damaged roads, the statement said.
The statement said that all the eight municipal corporations have been instructed to execute road repairing projects in consultation with respective MLAs.
