Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Three individuals made failed attempts to die by suicide on Thursday after the official flag-hoisting ceremony at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district collector’s office.
Just after the flag-hoisting ceremony, farmer Aditya Shravan Gaikwad of Ghorkund in Soyegaon tehsil attempted self-immolation in protest of unmet demands.
Gaikwad had claimed that despite demanding compensation on his loss of crops, he had not received any response from the state electricity authorities and the district collector. In the second incident, industrial workers Rajendra Sarode and Ravindra . Khandagale too attempted self-immolation in the same manner. A leading automotive spare parts’ manufacturing company had laid them off. They had repeatedly petitioned the company to follow norms laid down by the mathadi or head-loaders’ board and reinstate them. Alert police officers intervened and restrained them.
