Stalker gets 10yr RI for pushing girl to suicide

Bareilly: The court of additional district and sessions judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar on Tuesday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a stalker, who harassed a 14-year-old girl student so much that she was compelled to kill herself in Sept 2020. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.
The incident happened in Baradari area of Bareilly.

Mohd Alam (now 26 years) had been stalking the girl, who was then studying in class 7, for over a year and had been pestering her to marry him.
On Sept 27, 2020, the girl hanged herself, following which her family registered an FIR on Oct 18 against Alam under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide). He was soon arrested and sent to jail.
Additional district govt counsel Digambar Patel said, “Judge Diwakar, while passing the order, said the condition of women in most parts of the country is still pitiful as they have to go through such situations, forcing them to kill themselves. The judge also ordered Bareilly SSP to ensure police patrolling near schools, colleges and parks to ensure women’s safety.”
