Raipur: A
CRPF constable posted in Pulwama in
Jammu and Kashmir died by suicide on Friday while on leave at his native place in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district.
Police identified him as Suresh Sonwani, 35, of Demar village, around 70km south of Raipur.
This is the sixth suicide of a security personnel in Chhattisgarh since June and 12th this year.
According to family members, Suresh was under a lot of stress because he felt his marriage had failed.
He was fed up with regular quarrels with his wife, who had moved back to her parents with their eight-year-old son when Suresh was on anti-insurgency deployment in J&K.
Suresh had come home on a month's leave, hoping to mend the cracks. Sources said that the couple was trying to talk it out to settle their differences but nothing seemed to have worked out. Suresh was also missing his son and took the extreme step when no one was at home, Dhamtari SP Anjaneya Vaishnav said.
When his mother returned home, she was surprised to find the door locked from inside. There was no response to her calls.
Worried, she sought help from neighbours, who broke down the door and found the jawan dead. No suicide note was found in the house. Police have registered a case and sent the body for autopsy.
Less than a week ago, on Sep 14, a CRPF head constable shot himself in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Bastar, just two days after returning from leave. He was a native of Assam.
On Sep 3 and Aug 27, two SSB constables had died by suicide in Kanker and Durg districts, and on Aug 26, a CRPF head constable shot himself in Dantewada.
