Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Government Railway Police (GRP) is investigating a gang suspected of tampering with a railway signal in the Laksar area of Haridwar to stop a train and loot passengers in a general coach. Police said the incident occurred around two months ago, and initial investigations revealed that the accused manipulated a railway signal near the tracks at a secluded location during the night to bring the train to a stop.
DIG (GRP) P Renuka Devi said that both the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the GRP have registered cases related to the incident.
The RPF has lodged a case concerning damage to railway property, while the GRP is handling the investigation into the looting.
"The culprits fled after stealing valuables, including mobile phones, from passengers. We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and have already identified several suspects involved in the crime. Efforts are underway to arrest them soon," said Devi.
