Twenty-four people were arrested under preventive sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
DCP (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu stated that the ‘general gasht' was aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety through intensified foot patrolling and integrated checking in vulnerable areas and crime-prone stretches. "This operation was carried out as part of a daily exercise and included multiple officers from all police stations in the district on the ground, barring those on their shift duty. This increased patrolling led to such a high number of individuals being detained on Sunday," the DCP added.
The officer further explained that people were detained on the basis of inquiries conducted by the patrolling officers. Some of the individuals were found to be avoiding certain questions and hence they were detained and taken to the local police station for further questioning.
During the exercise, the cops also interacted with the public to discuss safety and security measures. Vehicle checks were also intensified at pickets.
