Panaji: The Kala Rakhonn Mandd, an organisation of artistes from across Goa, met with officials at the CMO to address the issue of the renovation of Kala Academy, Panaji.
The organisation said that the chief minister has assured them that reports from the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and the Indian Institute of Technology (
IIT) would be “thoroughly reviewed”.
This refers to the alleged shoddy renovation of Kala Academy after the collapse of the open air auditorium slab in July 2023 against which the artistes’ collective had protested.
During the meeting, it was proposed to establish a committee of representatives from the Kala Rakhonn Mandd, Charles Correa Foundation, GSIDC and the PWD. However, members of the collective said it was essential that a “respected” non-govt member was on the committee, citing a lack of trust in govt officials.
The group also raised concerns on the financial implications of Kala Academy repairs, demanding that these should be carried out without additional costs to govt. They stated that contractors should bear the expenses for the repairs.
