"His family usually stays in Imphal. Ukhrul is the minister's hometown, and he keeps coming here," a police officer said.
An FIR has been lodged and police are investigating the attack. "The area is a secured zone with security personnel present all the time since the mini secretariat is less than 100 metres from the minister's home," the cop said.
Though the guards present were unharmed, parts of the building were damaged. Security forces quickly responded, searching the area for clues. Splinters were recovered, but no suspects have been detained yet. No group has claimed responsibility.
