Indore: One of the city’s sought-after engineering institutions, Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), has been awarded an ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on Thursday through an official email from the council.
In its first cycle of NAAC assessment, the college has secured a CGPA of 3.1.
The 72-year-old engineering institute was inspected by a three-member NAAC peer team on Aug 22 and 23.
“Getting NAAC A grade in first attempt is commendable, though we were expecting an A+ grade. We will discuss with department heads and IQAC, and decide on applying for a review. With an A grade, we are now eligible to apply for a deemed university status,” prof Vijay Rode, in-charge director, SGSITS, said. Established in 1952, the autonomous govt college was confident in securing an A+ grade, citing its research output, student-teacher ratio, infrastructure, learning resources, alumni network and best practices. The college currently has over 5,000 students and more than 100 regular teaching faculty, along with about 100 contractual teachers. “The peer team provided suggestions for improvement and we will work on these to aim for a better grade in the next cycle,” Rode added.TNN
